More than a dozen of the RVDA of Canada Past Chairmen joined a group of 60 Canadian dealers to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the association’s national charter, at a special event held at the RVMH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Indiana on August 23, 2016.

RVDA of Canada began as a group of provincial chapters of the RVDA of North America in the mid-1970s, when several dealers in BC and Ontario decided that it was time to have a Canadian association to represent the interests of RV dealers across the nation.

Some of the early proponents of the RVDA of Canada concept included Fred Benninger, Eric Boutilier, Leo Hogan, Don Sneyd, Andy Thomson Sr., and John Torrington from Ontario,  Don Markowski from Alberta, Gil Robert from Manitoba, and Doug Williams from Nova Scotia worked tirelessly to bring the prairie provinces, Quebec, and the Atlantic provinces into the Canadian RVDA, and in 1986 the association applied for and received a federal charter – hence the 30th Anniversary of an association that traces its roots back more than forty years.

Canadian RV Dealer News Magazine, at that time operating as Canadian Camping and RV Dealer Magazine, was proud to play a role in the promotion of the early development of the RVDA of Canada. The CRVA (Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association) also participated in the early years, assisting each provincial RVDA chapter as well as the Canadian RVDA.

Over the years, each RVDA of Canada Chairman achieved significant goals in the development of a highly trained and professional RV workforce. Canadian RV Dealer Magazine will chronicle some of these achievements in a series of RVDA of Canada retrospectives in the 2016-2017 issues of the magazine, and on this website.

RV Dealers and members of the industry are encouraged to visit the RVMH Hall of Fame to see the commemorative bricks in the RV Walk of Fame, just outside the main entrance to the Hall of Fame.
