Friday, February 7, 2025, Noon – The RVDA of Canada has released a video hosted by RVDA of Canada’s Jim Gorrie, and featuring Charles Bernard, of Impact Public Affairs, CRVA’s Shane Devenish, and RVDA of Canada’s Eleonore Hamm, on the subject of the possible tariffs that are now on a 30-day “hold”.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Please note that this situation is in a state of flux, with politicians in Canada and the United States holding meetings on a continuing basis – the tariffs have been proposed in an Executive Order by President Trump to produce action on the issue of border security – the Canadian Government has proposed and implemented action on the border security elements, which resulted in the tariffs being placed on a 30-day hold as of February 2, 2025.
As the situation evolves, there are many people voicing strong opinions – on both sides of the border – and much of the media coverage speculating on the issues has not been verified.
While it is prudent to prepare to adapt swiftly to changing economic conditions, the tariff situation has already stimulated two very positive reactions – a substantial increase in Canadian national pride, and a determination to “buy Canadian” whenever possible. I would encourage Canadians to weigh the facts very carefully before expressing opinions on the subject, and to maintain our polite and respectful relationship with our neighbours in the United States while the “tariff talks” are progressing.

Here is a copy of the bulletin issued at 11:55 a.m. Friday February 7, 2025, by the RVDA of Canada:
You are invited to watch the recording of the recent webinar on the evolving U.S.-Canada tariff situation, hosted by RVDA of Canada’s Chairman, Jim Gorrie, and featuring Shane Devenish of CRVA, Eleonore Hamm, President of RVDA of Canada, and Charles Bernard, lead economist at Impact Public Affairs, the Canadian RV Industry’s top advisor on economic issues.
This webinar addressed the potential impacts of these tariffs on the RV industry and outlined key advocacy efforts underway.
Key Take-Aways from the Webinar:
- Ongoing Uncertainty: The situation remains fluid, with the 30-day tariff suspension currently in effect. However, the potential for tariffs to be reinstated in March remains a concern.
- Advocacy Efforts: RVDA of Canada is actively engaged in advocacy efforts with government officials at all levels, including federal and provincial.
Member Action:
- Engage with your MP: Share your concerns about the potential impact of tariffs on your business and the RV industry
- Stay informed: We will continue to provide updates and resources as the situation evolves.
- Explore the remission process: The remission process allows businesses to apply for exemptions from tariffs. Key arguments for remission include demonstrating reliance on U.S.-sourced inputs that are not available in Canada and the essential nature of U.S. sourcing for the Canadian RV industry. RVDA of Canada will provide a template letter for members to use when applying for remission and is investigating the possibility of group applications.
- “In-transit” Rule: Clarification is needed on how the “in-transit” rule will be applied, particularly regarding units already financed or physically in transit.
Continued Advocacy:
- It is of utmost importance to continue advocacy efforts at all levels, including contacting MPs and other elected officials to share concerns about the potential negative impacts of tariffs.
We encourage you to share any information you have regarding the potential impact of tariffs with us.
RVDA of Canada will continue to provide regular updates and communication to members as the situation evolves.
