A Win for Ontario’s RV Community: Advocacy That Drives Change
The Ontario RV Dealers Association (ORVDA) is proud to announce a major advocacy success: as of July 1, 2025, Ontario drivers no longer require a commercial license to operate motorhomes over 11,000 kg.
This long-anticipated regulatory change is the result of sustained efforts by ORVDA’s Government Relations Committee and marks a significant step forward for both motorhome operators and the RV industry. The updated licensing framework introduces an RV-specific license, supported by an online learning module that prioritizes safety and accessibility, without placing unnecessary burdens on drivers.
The new requirements are now fully implemented and reflected in DriveTest files and official communications from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario. By aligning with national standards already in place across most other provinces, Ontario has removed a key barrier for motorhome operators, opening the door to increased confidence, industry growth, and broader access to the RV lifestyle.
It’s a powerful reminder of the value of strong associations. With a unified voice, industry partners can work collaboratively to influence change, protect member interests, and make meaningful progress on the issues that matter most.
